It is either not cost effective or not even possible at all to perform the hardness test on larger metal work pieces such as cast or forged parts or thick plates with the traditional, static methods. The portable Equotip ranges of metal hardness testers developed by Proceq SA, Switzerland in the last 30 years are a suitable alternative. The Equotip metal hardness testers use the dynamic Leeb rebound technique invented by Proceq. Hardness tests according to this Leeb method are particularly quick and easy to perform.
Please be informed that Proceq no longer supplies the Equotip 2 portable hardness tester. We being an authorised service center, still offer comprehensive technical and repair service support for your Equotip 2 device.
The Equotip 3 is a versatile portable metal hardness tester offering extended capabilities and unmatched ease of operation. This metal hardness tester has a large and clear display which is integrated in the robust ABS plastic housing together with the sealed membrane keypad.
With variable background lightning, the LCD display of the metal hardness tester offers a clear overview of the recorded metal hardness values even in dimly lit work areas. In particularly harsh working environments or for more comfortable handling the metal hardness tester Equotip 3 can be stored in a protective bag. To date, Equotip 3 is unmatched in its implementation of the portable metal hardness tester concept and has therefore become established as a globally recognized measuring technique. The Equotip 3 meets the customers needs for a non destructive metal hardness tester.
The portable hardness tester Equotip 3 may be combined with many different impact devices allowing a wide range of different materials, surfaces and part geometries to be measured. These significantly extend the possibility of applications for the Equotip device. Each of these special impact devices is compatible with basic unit Equotip 3 & is supplied as accessory.
The testers only work properly when the impact body is held to the proper distance from the test surface during impact. The wide selection of support rings permits testing on a great variety of part geometries, from flat surfaces to concave or convex cylindrical or spherical test surfaces. Support rings are easy to use - simply thread them on the end of the impact devices to ensure perfect adaption of the tester to the sample.
Salient Features :
  • Equotip 3 is a hand-held metal hardness tester with a rugged shock-resistant housing and sealed membrane keypad
  • The metal hardness tester Equotip 3 converts directly to all common hardness scales (HV, HB, HRC, HRB, HRA, HS, Rm); creates and uses another up to 20 customer-specific conversions for uncommon alloys
  • Highly accurate +/- 4 HL (0.5% at 800 HL) with automatic correction for impact direction
  • The Equotip 3 metal hardness tester offers a wide measurement range
  • Internal storage of ~100,000 measured values in a flexible user-defined file/folder structure
  • The metal hardness tester Equotip 3 offers user profiles for a quick change of test setup (with password protection)
  • Down-/upload data from/to PC via USB, Ethernet or RS-232
Applications :
  • Good for most metals
  • Excellent for material selection, acceptance and production level testing
  • Highly accurate +/- 4 HL (0.5% at 800 HL) with automatic correction for impact direction
  • The metal hardness tester Equotip 3 is ideal for on-site testing of heavy and large components before and after installation
  • Handy for difficult to access or confined metal hardness test locations
  • The Equotip 3 metal hardness tester is accurate also on curved test surfaces (R > 10 mm)
The Equotip Bambino 2 and Piccolo 2 are well suited for on-site hardness checks of metals where the test indentation should be as small as possible. It combines modern electronics with a patented impact device that integrates the test cycle into one simple motion.
They are handy, does not require a separate indicating device, nor cables or PC hardware: its control menu and innovative features makes them the most ergonomic and easy to use integrated instrument for the metal hardness test.
Automatic recognition of the impact direction and self diagnostics make the metal hardness test with these devices incredibly easy. The large LCD display shows the individual readings and mean test results. Most common metal hardness conversions are included.
The DL Accessory Kit is used to extend the range of applications. It allows testing in confined spaces and recessed surfaces through a long, slim testing nozzle.
The Equotip Piccolo 2 offers the same features for metal hardness testing, but offers additionally user defined hardness conversions and data storage. Piccolink software permits the transfer of collected data from the Piccolo to a PC and enables further processing of the data.
Stationary hardness testers can only accommodate test pieces of limited size. Moreover, transportation of the test pieces is often impractical. On the other end of the spectrum, Leeb rebound tests have limitations in terms of minimum sample mass and thickness.
The Equostat 3 works well in outdoor, factory and lab environments, and has only very few requirements on test piece geometries. The Equostat 3 probe can be connected directly to a laptop or PC. Alternatively, the probe plugs into the Equotip 3 indicating device to combine the Rockwell principle of Equostat 3 with the Leeb rebound principle of Equotip to become the most versatile hardness tester.
The hardness testing principle in Equostat 3 follows the Rockwell stationary test. During measurements with the Equostat 3 probe, a diamond indenter is forced into the test piece to be measured and then released back out of the material. The indentation depth of the diamond is continuously measured while the load is applied and released.
Salient Features :
  • Accurate, rapid and reproducible metal hardness readings
  • Measurements are independent of the material and sample dimensions Testing range from very soft (aluminium) up to very hard materials (case-hardened steel)
  • Measurement in HRC, integrated conversions to HV, HB, HRA, HRB, HR15N, Rm possible
  • Transfer of up to ~100,000 stored readings from the Equotip 3 indicating device to a PC using Equolink 3
  • Small test load yields small penetrations of only a few µm
  • The Equostat 3 probe can be used in either a clamp or freehand
  • In addition to the Equostat 3 probe, all the impact devices of the Equotip metal hardness tester can be used to also conduct rebound hardness testing with the same indicating device
Applications :
  • Precise metal hardness testing of very soft materials through to very hard materials
  • Thin parts, profiles and pipes of a wall thickness < 2 mm, sheets, coiled metal, as well as parts as thin as 0.2 mm (0.008"), depending on the hardness level
